Hi Jacobis, unfortunately I’ve never done business that way, so I don’t really know anything about it. I’ve heard sales reps mention factoring once or twice but that’s the extent of my knowledge. I hope you’re able to find answers!

Can you tell me how I can go about getting merchandise by using Net 30. I am a designer for men and women, but I want other designers to push what I want to do in the store. I am just starting out, and I would love to get some feedback on this as soon as possible.

^Hi Katie! Not a dumb question in the least bit, and also a totally okay one to ask the reps I use a lot of images from the designer look books; most are more than happy to lend them to you. But I did run into one situation where they wanted to charge me $25 PER image just to use their pictures — yikes!! So its always good to ask and not just assume you can use them.

Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you for your blog. This is beyond helpful for so many people! I’m in the process of getting my children’s boutique off the ground (still in the VERY beginning stages) and actually maybe utilizing some of your consulting services . Maybe this is a dumb question… but… Do you ever think it’s appropriate to ask the brand if you can use their pictures in your store? Is this not ok? Will they be totally offended?

Couldn’t find anywhere else to leave comment, so here it is.

I’ve been reading your posts out of order since I just came up on the blog and stuff.

Good stuff, looks like you’re building up a business the right way.

I’m wondering if you can build a shared boutique with someone else (shared target audience of 21-30 year old females) in a well located 2/F space to save on the rent.
What money you save on rent goes into marketing, and you don’t get random people walking by, you get people that heard about your shop from someone and who got your marketing and like it enough to go up a flight of steps to look around (that’s a big deal.)
If your eye is good, and you really understand your audience and what appeals to them, you’ll do well.
