Building the Boutique

This weekend I’m styling my first big story, which is a “Where the Wild Things Are” inspired editorial with photographer Vanessa Cabrillas. Technically, I’ve done stories before, but this was my first time pulling more than 4 looks at a time…11 total, to be exact. We’ve been preparing for this for over a month, so I’m very much looking forward to this weekend! Call time is going to be super early, and the whole thing is taking place in the woods so I’m preparing to dress as warm as possible. The models, unfortunately, will not!

So, I totally owe you guys a BIG blog post concerning what’s been going on with Ooh La Luxe! lately, including the close of my salon space, and I’ll get to that soon! Our newest line, Black Orchid Denim, has been getting amazing press as of late! Hilary Duff is the latest to jump on the Black Orchid train (she actually wears a LOT of brands I carry, especially Love Quotes and Linea Pelle). She’s wearing the Black Orchid denim leggings in Thunder wash, and I think her entire outfit is on point.

Most of you have probably already heard the bad news about the Lauren Conrad Collection going on hold. It looks like Lauren isn’t doing a Fall, Holiday or Resort collection, and according too her rep she’s working on a collection for next Spring. I’m not all that surprised, I knew all along that her contract with Viacom was ending, which means she might be looking for new financial backing for the line. The collection has sold really well for me, but it certainly won’t hurt for her to revamp the line, and hopefully she’ll be able to be a little more creative this time around. So here’s to hoping she comes back early next year with pieces that are even more amazing!

The picture above is from Heidi and Spencers wedding, where LC looked ah-mazing. That dress hasn’t been ID’ed yet so my fingers are crossed that it is apart of her spring collection. I’m honestly sick of her using that same shade of blue, but the dress itself just way too adorable.

ETA: it looks like the dress is Valentino. Too bad!

Just as my Lauren Conrad holiday merchandise arrives, Lauren debuts her collection for Spring 2009 at LA Fashion week. The timing is perfect since market week starts this weekend and I’ll be heading to buy on Saturday. Here are a few of the piece I have my eye on, and of course, I want your input!

That maxi dress was the strongest piece from the entire collection if you ask me. It’s just gorgeous and it screams Spring! The white dress is basic but nice and clean. I would probably get that one in black; white is a bit daunting for most of us girls.

For the first time Lauren introduced chiffon into her collection with three polka dotted prints. I really love this fabric! I think this dress is gorgeous in the pink but those tiny black roses are so unnecessary; there’s something about it that just doesn’t mesh. However, it works in the blue.

More pretty pretty florals. I’m really on the fence with that second dress, the halter one. It’s cute but it’s maybe a bit…matronly? I’m not sure if many 20 something girls would want to wear that style. Love the chiffon blouse though; that should look great in pink.

A couple other looks here. That first dress….hmm, as much as I love the print the bubble hem along with the short length seems a bit unflattering. It would’ve been perfect with just a normal hem! Lauren also added body suits to the line up; I’m seeing these on several linesheets, so I guess they’re making a comeback.

I’ll figure something out here. There are definitely a few promising pieces and I’ll probably buy 8 or 9 of them. Let me know what you think in the comments section!

This is sort of a landmark for me because it’s the first time a piece from the store has gotten celebrity press! Very exciting, especially since I just bought this piece on Saturday. I knew paying way too much attention to celebs would pay off! Kim Kardashian wore the Voom by Joy Han Chic Dress to the premiere of the Cheetah Girls movie on Wednesday night. I really love the way this dress looks on her.

Kim Kardashian went on a Voom shopping spree where she picked up two of our hottest pieces, the Denim Pinstripe Babydoll and the Chic Dress, which is a brand new holiday piece (it’s slated to ship in about a month, but if anyone is interested in it now, I can probably bump up the ship date). Kim looks amazing in these dresses, and she bought both pieces so don’t be surprised if you see photos of her wearing either dress out on the town!

It’s finally here! A first look at the OohLaLuxe.com Fall/Holiday merchandise. Most of the pieces I purchased are featured in this video, and all but a few are in the correct colors as well. I’m seriously SO happy with this merchandise; I like it even more than the pieces I got for spring. Check it out and feel free to let me know what you think:

To be honest, these ladies probably aren’t considered fashion icons in the way that Kate Moss or someone of the sort, but they are three of my faves when it comes to celebrity style, just to give you all another taste of my fashion sense. I always like girls who look very put together; I’m not really a fan of the “dumpster chic” look as I call it (I think most would brand it hipster?) so this will be an Olsen free zone!
