You can do COD, but generally your card is charged after your order ships. If you're going to a trade show make sure you have all your paperwork and business cards together; at the showrooms, make sure you're ready to answer basic questions about your store and what lines you're looking to carry. Keep in mind that higher end reps are going to be looking for "prestige" when it comes to your shop.
