So….Volusion It Is

10 Feb

After going over a couple of different ecommerce hosts for the past 2 weeks, I made up my mind and signed up with Volusion earlier today. Yeah, I know, a couple of you warned me about them, and I really do appreciate your input. I really wasn’t 100% happy with any of the potential hosts I looked at. But the whole bandwidth/downtime issue was the only thing holding me off when it comes to Volusion ….whereas I had a whole number of issues with Shopify and CoreCommerce. Although I did have a pretty bad experience with their support people on live chat last night (one basically refused to answer my questions and purposefully LEFT the chat right in the middle of our conversation, and the other told me to import my products by hand and didn’t see it necessary to let me know there was a feature already installed to do it). Not such a great impression, unfortunately.

But otherwise, I’m really excited about Volusion though, mainly because I’ll be saving money. At Yahoo! I was paying $130/mo (plus transaction fees). On Volusion I’ll be paying $40/mo. No, you didn’t read that wrong, I’ll be paying less than a third of what I did before. It really makes me wonder how Yahoo even stays in business these days. At this point they’re technically ripping off their customers.

Within the next ten days or so I’ll be sprucing the site up and getting it ready before I change the domain servers over, so for the time being OohLaLuxe.com will be completely accessible, and there shouldn’t be much downtime. But man is there SO much to do, and so many little things. It really takes a lot of time to get a store set up, but it will save me so much time in the long run.

Why would use Volusion with their high downtime? Just google it and you will see they have had massive issues with outages. Don’t say you haven’t been warned!

I really love your blog! Truly inspiring for those who want to build their own boutique… anyways…. I was on http://www.wix.com with a friend who is using that to build their website and I noticed on there you can set up online shops and get paid directly to your paypal account… I don’t know the pricing but I see the site is very easy to make just about any website you want… just wanted to throw that out there because I thought it was cool! Lol! Keep up the good work honey!

Ok… so I just checked out the pricing on wix.com…. WOW! Just about every upgrade to choose from is under $20 and you can try it out for 2 weeks and if you’re not satisfied get your money back…. I think you should check this out!

Hey Char, thanks for letting me know about Wix. I’m pretty happy with what I have going with Volusion right now, though :)

    Hi Kim
ive been using shopify for around 2 years now and i am now considering switching to volusion for its powerful features and better SEO functionality.
I have build loads of incoming links on my website, and know that the move will probably impact google rankings negatively. Just wondering how that transition went for you? and how are your SEO efforts working with volusion?
    thanks

Saving money on your monthly fee isnt all its cracked up to be.

Im in the process of looking around to change providers because I have lost far to many sales due to check out errors and customers experiencing all sorts of bad issues while trying to buy products from my site – This makes me feel sick to think just how much i have lost because of Volusion.

I would rather pay $100 per month and have a reliable shopping cart provider… I also thought how great it was only paying $40… now you see, you always get what you pay for!

When I was looking around initially it never crossed my mind to look into things like downtime and research the negative side… all I saw were great looking templates and cheap fees and now I have invested sooooo much time into building this site only to watch the abandoned carts and read issue reports from customers.

I never imagined that this would be a problem…

“now you see, you always get what you pay for! ”

Nope, can’t say that I do personally since I’ve yet to have any issues with Volusion. And if you actually took the time to read my posts, you’d realize that money saving was far from the deciding factor for me to go w/ volusion (it was just an added perk). Most of the other carts were priced similarly. Sorry it didn’t work out for you!
