Consignment
1 Jan
I’m trying something different, and I’m very happy to say that my clothes will soon be featured in a local store (yay!). I was lucky to come across a local consignment shop that does all the closeouts for the high end boutiques here in town. So I went down there, talked to the owner and got a feel for the merchandise they carry, and in about two weeks I have an appointment to bring in my things and get my account started up. For a while now I’ve been wondering what to do with a few of these pieces that have been left over from last spring, and this sounds absolutely perfect. I mean, these folks know what they’re doing; they have a very thorough system and they also appear to have a customer base that is willing to purchase designer items that aren’t necessarily dirt cheap.
I have two lines in particular that haven’t done quite as well as I had hoped, mainly because they really need to be seen in person. I’m really excited about finally having a bit of floor space locally. I’ll keep everyone updated on the progress.
Oh and happy new years to everyone! Here’s to an even more succesful 2009!

Hmmm…consigning merchandise from boutiques is a really interesting idea. Good luck with your appointment!

Sounds fab! I just ran across your blog, I was curious about what lines are not doing so well for you. I’m currently a buyer for a small boutique in AZ and it’s always nice to have a heads up on lines that are good and avoiding disasters.
I’ts great that you will be consigning, how did you come up with the idea? I’m thinking about maybe doing some online e-commerce venture in the future and would also like to know what methods of web marketing you find effective, and if you have any tips, I hear the hardest part is getting traffic to your site, what have been your proven methods?
Thank you and Happy New Year!

i always wondered what online boutiques do with leftover stock after my intro to merchandising class. this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you & Ooh La Luxe!
Hi, Kim. This sounds like a fantastic idea and I’ll definitely put it down in my “notebook”.
My partners and I are going live with an e-boutique in August. I’ve been following your story here b/c you’ve given such useful information about building a boutique.
A question for you: I’m heading to Vegas for Magic. Any advice you can give me as a nubie?
Thanks!
I wanted to know how you went about completing your business plan and how long did it take. Are there sites that help you to figure out the financial info?
Thanks in Advance
